Here are some reviews of the 3D movies I have seen so far. I have to say, all of the pixar movies seem to suck 3D wise. I read that, they don't use pop out effects so the movies don't scare children.
My TV is a Vizio Passive 3DTV.
A Monster in Paris
I did not care for this as a movie, and I do not recall any worthwhile 3D pop out effects.
A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas
This movie, being a live action movie, did not have too many pop out effects, but I remember enjoying the smoke effects, like when they would blow smoke at you. Other than that, nothing special here.
Avatar
I first watched this in the theater, but since it was so packed I had to sit in the far back corner, and I just did not find it all that impressive.
Skip to now, I have been saving it to watch one day when I am feeling down about 3D, and it was just as amazing as people say. The depth is constant, and really looks good. The best I have watched so far.
Battle Royal
This was a crazy movie, came before hunger games. Had some nice blood splashing in 3D.
Bolt
This was an enjoayble movie, but the 3D was flat.
Brave
The 3D in this one had such potential, but it is a pixar movie, so, kinda flat.
Captain America
Worthless converted junk. Fun movie I suppose.
Clash of the Titans
Flat, no 3D value here.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
This seemed amazing in the theaters, but at home the 3D wasn't as deep, but that could be my setup or my copy.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
Good 3D, just as good as the first one.
Coraline
This should be on your must watch list for 3D, even though the pop out is not always as good as it should be (might be better on different hardware)
Dial M for Murder
This movie did not have much going for it 3D wise but it had some nice overall depth.
Deep Ocean Experience
I seem to recall really enjoying this, I may have it confused with another ocean 3D documentary. I will update this some day.
Descpicable Me
This is one of the best 3D movies and it really shows off what 3D can be.
Descpicable Me 2
Enjoyable 3D, another 3D hit.
Doctor Who the Day of the Doctor
Very good 3D, a must for any Dr. Who fan.
Dredd
It's hard to make a good live action 3D movie, but this was ok. The drug use effects in the movie made the 3D worthwhile.
Drive Angry
This had some moments but nothing special 3D wise.
Final Destination 4/5
I was really drunk when I watched these, I remember them being bad movies but, just some half ass 3D when people would die and such.
Frankenweenie
Movie was kinda flat.
Ghosts of the Abyss
The 3D is deep, well done, must be some damn expensive camera's, I will the studios would loan them out or something to 3D film makers.
Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
Nice 3D at times, it's a hybrid.
How to Train You Dragon
The 3D in this movie wasn't that great either.
Hugo
Good stuff but not as amazing as people say it is.
Ice Age 3
This was another one that had 3D moments, but overall, wasn't special.
Imax Galapagos, Hubble ,Into the Deep ,Ocean Wonderland ,Space Station ,Under the Sea
All enjoyable with great 3D moments.
IMAX To the Artic
Amazing 3D in the opening credits and such, but then, its all flat. I think because they had to be so far away from everything while filming.
John Carter
This film was fun to watch but, it was fake 3D and nothing really worked 3D wise.
Journey 2 - The Mysterious Island
I was suprised this was shot in 3D, after watching it I thought it was fake 3D. Nuff said.
Jurassic Park
This is a well done conversion, nice depth, but no pop outs.
Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2
I recall these being flat.
Life of Pi
Good movie, enjoyable 3D. Worth watching.
Meet the Robinsons
This was converted, but properly. I enjoyed it, but it did not have any kind of extra pop out effects.
Megamind
One of the best 3D movies. Get it.
Michael Jackson This Is It
Worthless.
Monster House
This one had some nice 3D.
Open Season
Meh.
Oz the Great and Powerful
This movie had so much potential. 3D wise, it is great. Movie wise, they tried to be too funny, and Franco hams it up like he does with most movies. Might be worth a watch for the 3D aspect alone, but I kept checking the clock to see when it would be over, which is never a good sign.
Paranorman
The movie was bad, and the 3D was bad.
Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides
Live action movies just don't pop out it seems, I don't get it.
Prometheus
I enjoyed this movie but, the 3D was not amazing, but still worth it.
Resident Evil Afterlife
Has some decent 3D moments.
Resident Evil Damnation
Good 3D at times but I felt it needed more overall depth. I don't think it's worth the price of importing right now unless you are a huge fan.
Resident Evil Retribution
I really enjoyed this, I had not enjoyed an RE movie this much since the first two.
Rio
This is one you would think the 3D would be great, but I did not see hardly any pop out effects.
Saw
I enjoyed this because I had followed the plot twists of the previous films. I felt they could have done much better with the 3D though. If you are a fan, and you can pick it up for say $10 or less shipped, go for it.
Secret of the Wings
Nice 3D here, nothing too poppy, but well rounded and deep.
Shrek (all movies)
Almost worthless 3D.
Silent Hill Revelations
The 3D was great, the movie, I have no idea what to say. I feel like I need to know more about the silent hill universe to truly understand/appreciate the story. Worth a watch if you are a fan.
Tangled
Incredible movie, great 3D, does not try to hard to throw stuff off the screen yet it still is a great 3D movie.
The Amazing Spider-man
Sadly I did not enjoy this movie as a 3D movie or as a spiderman movie.
The Avengers
This is the best 3D converted movie I have seen, however, still converted, so nothing great there.
The Darkest Hour
This was an ok movie, and had some decent (but seldom) 3D effects.
The Great Gatsby
Great 3D movie actually. I was not expecting that.
The Hobbit
I can't properly give an opinion on this because I did not like the movie itself, I did not like lord of the rings either. The 3D has its moments but needed more depth in the non action scenes.
The Lorax
Although a cheesy movie, it had some really really good 3D moments.
The Prodigies
I enjoyed this, was a twisted and kinda sick movie, unique story, and some good 3D. Have fun finding it though
The Three Musketeers
This was a decent 3D movie, just like Resident Evil Afterlife.
Thor
Converted, and worthless 3D wise.
Toy Story/Toy Story 2
More pixar flat stuff...
Transformers 3
This is a hybrid, and I enjoyed some of the 3D more than other movies I have seen, but most of it is flat.
Tron Legacy
I honestly did not see many 3D pop outs here, you would think that there would be some amazing moments but it just all seemed like it had some depth but not much else. I plan to re watch it to confirm as I did enjoy the movie regardless.
UP
Pixar once again, a flat 3D movie. I remember seeing the trailer in theaters, it must have been different from the finished movie because, that had some depth, this did not.
Upside Down
I bought this before it was confirmed fake 3D sadly. The 3D did nothing...
